THE distraught father of a nine-year-old boy who is fighting for his life in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital has urged people to pray for his son, following a road traffic collision in Cargan.
Simon Doherty is in critical condition following the accident at Glenravel Road, just outside Ballymena on Saturday afternnon around 5pm.
He was airlifted to hospital by the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance.
His father Robert posted online: "Please everyone pray for Simey now, he needs you all and your prayers. Please, I'm afraid to pick up my telephone for the fear of bad news.
“My son is fighting for his life. Please God help him. Come on Simey you can do this son, please God don't take him from us. We all love him so much - I can't see my life without him."
Local independent councillor for the area, Paul Maguire, said it was a "tragic accident" and his thoughts and prayers are with all involved.
He thanked the emergency services and police who attended.
Police in Ballymena are appealing for information about the accident involving a black Toyota Avensis car.
The driver of the car has been spoken to by police.
The road was closed for a number of hours but has since re-opened.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact officers at Ballymena station on 101 quoting reference number 957 09/09/17.
