BALLYMENA'S grand old lady, marvellous Maud Nicholl, had 108 reasons to smile yesterday (Monday) - one for every year of her remarkable life!
Being one of the oldest people in the United Kingdom did not stop Maud from getting on her 'best dress' and heading to the Tullyglass House Hotel for a special birthday party.
The Woodgreen woman, who still lives on her own, was already a three-year-old toddler when the Titanic sailed down the slipway at Belfast harbour in 1912.
Never married, Maud has suggested in the past that the secret of her long life was down to to "no smoking, no drinking... and no men!"
At yesterday's party, friends toasted her incredible life and shared stories going back more than a century.
