SPEAKING at the launch, Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Cllr Paul Reid, said: "Here in Mid and East Antrim we have quickly established a reputation as an award winning Borough, thanks to our Mid and East Antrim In Bloom campaign which encourages everyone who lives in the Borough to think about their local environment and how flowers, plants and gardens can enhance it for people and wildlife.
“By actively supporting our 'In Bloom' campaign and community competitions residents not only brighten our Borough but often enable our towns and villages to go on to achieve success in the Translink Ulster in Bloom awards and the RHS Britain in Bloom awards."
“At the 2016 Britain in Bloom awards ceremony in Birmingham last October, Ahoghill won the Gold Award in the 'Champion of Champions' category and was then announced as the overall winner in the 'Champion of Champions' category.
“This is the highest award possible in Britain in Bloom and means Ahoghill is arguably the cleanest, greenest and most beautiful place in the UK."
Cllr. Reid concluded: "I look forward to the 2017 in Bloom competitions. Carrickfergus, Ballymena, Larne, Greenisland, Whitehead, Cullybackey, Ahoghill, Eden, Gracehill, Glenarm, Glynn, Clough and Millbrook will be judged in the Translink Ulster in Bloom competition this July.
“Ballymena and Cullybackey will be judged by RHS Britain in Bloom judges this August. I am sure our Borough will continue to bloom and impress the judges."
