Beauty spot health fears

Thursday, 11 May 2017

NI WATER is to carry out an emergency CCTV inspection of a sewer flowing into the River Braid near the Ecos Centre, after reports of human waste floating in the waterway.
Local man and keen angler Paul Smith contacted the Guardian to express his utter disgust and horror after children were swimming in the river at the Ecos Park during the May Day Bank holiday.
Mr Smith immediately informed horrified parents who had taken their children on a family day out in the sun.
Mid and East Antrim Ulster Unionist councillor, Stephen Nicholl, was raising the issue as a matter or urgency at last night's meeting of the council's Operational Committee.
A spokesperson from NI Water said: "NI Water received a report of a pollution incident near the ECOS Centre, Ballymena on April 28, 2017.
“NI Water are planning to carry out an emergency CCTV exercise of the sewer in question and will also be distributing bag it and bin it notices to properties in the area."
