Battling for Ellie!
Thursday, 20 April 2017
A LITTLE Ballymena girl, who has one of the world's rarest medical conditions, is preparing for a trip with her parents to London to undergo vital open heart surgery.
Ellie McAuley, who is 19-months old is clearly the apple of her parents eyes.
Joanne and Stephen told the Guardian last week that despite already having had three heart surgeries and constant medical appointments, she is an "amazing inspiration and such a good natured baby."
Ellie was born with a rare condition called Transposition of the Arteries, which means her heart arteries are effectively the wrong way round.
The condition is complicated further as she was also born with Downs Syndrome.
Ellie's condition is so rare she is only the second person in medical history to suffer this particular condition.
As a result, her cardiologist has had a submission about Ellie accepted for publication in a leading medical journal and the leading expert in this field, cardiac surgeon, Christian Brizard, is flying from Melbourne, Australia, to observe the surgery.
