Frew pleads with reckless drivers to ‘wise up’ at A26 Cromkill junction
Thursday, 13 April 2017
NORTH Antrim DUP MLA, Paul Frew, has claimed motorists are dicing with death by continuing to turn right on to the A26 dual-carriageway from the Cromkill Road.
The civil works proposed for the A26 to make the main road safer are now complete at the Cromkill junction and prohibits the right turn manoeuvre towards Antrim.
Mr Frew said: "Having been in contact with TransportNI officials over the past few days, they and the PSNI are extremely worried a small number of drivers are ignoring the signage and even the civil works, driving on what now is a one way lane the wrong way facing fast moving traffic coming off the A26. This is madness!"
“There have been many accidents at this junction, including some fatalities over the years.
“Local residents have had their fencing destroyed and their gardens encroached with vehicles landing within metres of toys and garden furniture, painting a very scary picture of what might have been.
“This civil work, if heeded, will save lives.
“How dare they risk their own lives and other peoples' just because they are too lazy to travel via the Ballee Roundabout or aggrieved at having to turn left and use the next available centre reservation point.
“If drivers are caught at this dangerous activity they are liable to get 9 points and a charge of careless driving to contend with.
“The PSNI are monitoring the junction. I plead with people to wise up before someone gets killed because of your actions."
