LOCAL motocross rider Trevor Calderwood is looking forward to his World CZ Championship defence in California!
The 55-year-old Ahoghill ace, a member of the Northern Ireland Classic Scrambles Club, flies out to the States on Thursday (April 20).
First stop is Texas, and a race date on Saturday - The Diamond Dons Vintage MX meeting in Jefferson.
The following weekend is the BIG one with Calderwood defending his World title at Marysville, California!
The local rider is part of a Northern Ireland team of four out to make their mark in America.
He travels with Comber colleague Adrian Laffin.
Speaking to Guardian Sport Calderwood said he is really looking forward to his title defence.
He does not expect an easy time!
Calderwood took the title last year from American veteran, Rocket Rex Staten.
No doubt the Rocket has plans to be crowned top man this time round.
Meanwhile, Calderwood could not hide his excitement about competing in The Diamond Dons Vintage MX meeting the weekend before his World bid.
“It is a massive event," he told Guardian Sport. "It will be great to be part of it."
It certainly is a double challenge Calderwood will never forget.
Calderwood was quick to thank Robert Finnegan, from Las Vegas, and Chili Peper, from Texas, for kindly supplying bikes for his use.
“I am very grateful to get the use of CZ machinery, sponsored by them," he said.
Calderwood said the race meetings he will be tackling are two of the largest Vintage ones in America.
