Welcome to Buckna Airport!
Thursday, 16 March 2017
FLYING into Buckna just got a lot easier as planning permission was granted last week for a local aircraft landing strip!
Alliance councillor Robert Logan quipped: "There's no chance this will develop into Buckna International Airport!"
Councillors at last week's Planning Committee meeting voted in favour of the proposal, which will see a maximum of 52 landings per year at the strip at Buckna Road.
The proposal is for a private landing strip which extends to 750m in length and occupies an area greater than 1 hectare and falls into the Major category of development.
The site is at a level lower than the Buckna Road and glimpses of the site are available from critical viewpoints while travelling along the Buckna Road.
Access to the site is gained from the Buckna Road via an existing entrance through an established farm complex.
The site is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
No objections were received from statutory bodies or airport authorities.
