Jeffrey may ‘freshen up’ Sky Blues!
Thursday, 9 March 2017
DAVID Jeffrey has hinted he may "freshen up" his side for the visit of Portadown on Saturday, writes Shaun O'Neill.
The Ballymena United manager will check on injured defensive duo Kyle Owens and Caolan Loughran.
The big centre-halves collided in the Tennent's Irish Cup quarter-final clash with Coleraine at the Showgrounds, both sustaining nasty head injuries.
Owens needed five staples in a gaping wound, while 22-year-old Loughran had quite a visible bump.
“Kyle really has a deep gash, and needed five staples, while Caolan had another head growing out of his head," Jeffrey told Guardian Sport.
Both United and Portadown will want to banish their Irish Cup results - United losing 4-0 to the Bannsiders while the Ports went down 5-0 at home to rivals Glenavon.
Jeffrey has told his players to put the Cup tie defeat and experience in the bin - and concentrate on getting a win this weekend.
He makes it clear there is still a massive amount to play for.
“We cannot lose sight of that," he stressed.
“We will get the weekend out of the way, and get the boys in. Our focus will be against Portadown. Every point will be a prisoner from now until the end of the season."
And Jeffrey was quick to point out - "Don't let their position fool you."
Portadown are currently propping up the Premiership!
Reflecting on the Irish Cup exit Jeffrey admitted the loss of Owens and Loughran had really knocked their shape and organisation.
