AFTER a turbulent couple of weeks for Joe Lamont following his liver transplant, the four-year-old is back in the Royal Victoria Hospital and making great progress.
The little boy, from Deramore Gardens, travelled to Birmingham at the end of January with his mum Sarah to receive part of her liver which he needed in order to survive.
All appeared to be well following the surgery with Sarah and Joe's recovery and within a few weeks Sarah was told she could take her "gorgeous boy" back home to Northern Ireland.
On Monday, February 13 Joe got a flight home with his family and was brought straight to the Barbour Ward in the Royal Victoria Hospital where they planned to keep him for a few days for monitoring.
Speaking to the Guardian, Sarah said: "I was delighted to get back home with Joe and walking into the Royal was like being reunited with old friends.
"The staff there are all so fond of Joe as he has been attending there three times a week for dialysis since he was born."
However things took and unexpected turn for the worse the following night when Joe developed a bad cough.
Doctor's in the Royal carried out an x-ray and found his heart to be enlarged which caused them major concern.
The cause for the enlargement turned out to be a clot which medical staff believe was caused by a bleed after a line was taken out of his neck before leaving Birmingham.
