TRADING opportunities for Ballymena businesses in China were showcased during a high powered visit to the area yesterday (Monday).
Madam Wang Shuying, Consul General of the People's Republic of China, was welcomed to the Braid Town Hall by Mid and East Antrim by the Mayor, councillor Audrey Wales.
The visit came ahead of a council-backed Chinese New Year parade in Ballymena this Saturday, marking the Year of the Rooster.
Councillor Wales, said: "I will be delighted to join the celebrations on Saturday, but this event sees Council continuing to boost our relations with the Chinese community in hard business terms."
The Mayor said she was opening an important three-way discussion between local businesses, the council and the Consulate-General.
“Securing Consul General Wang Shuying and her team's visit to the Borough is a great opportunity to raise our profile as an attractive investment location."
Cllr. Wales explained that she had commissioned a necklace designed and handcrafted by a local firm, The Gem Blossom, as a very special gift for Consul General Madam Wang Shuying, Consul General of the Peoples Republic of China.
