BALLYMENA Rotarians made up over 250 Christmas hampers this year and distributed them to less fortunate families throughout the area.
Once again they enlisted the help of 27 primary and post primary schools for the project.
All the schools were provided with posters and boxes and over a three week period pupils and parents contributed high quality non perishable food items.
Christmas hamper organiser, John Stuart, said the annual initiative was "a fairly big organisational challenge."
He explained: "There is a very active Rotary Club in Ballymena and every Rotarian is involved in the project.
“They collected the items, sorted them, made up the hampers and also purchased additional luxurious items so that each hamper had a good balance.
“The pupils also made Christmas cards for the hampers and in some cases it may be the only one to go to an elderly or lonely person."
