The car at the crash scene just outside the Institute of Mixed Martial Arts Gym on Linenhall Street, Ballymena, on Saturday afternoon.
An 11-year-old boy and his father escaped serious injury by seconds after a car crashed into the front of a gym in Ballymena town centre on Saturday afternoon.
Shocked members of the Institute of Mixed Martial Arts (IMMA) rushed outside after hearing the loud bang and discovered a red Vauxhall Corsa had smashed into the front of their building.
Literally seconds before the crash the young lad and his father had passed the point of impact on their way into the gym.
Rodney Moore, chief coach at the IMMA, told the Guardian that the duo had had a very lucky escape.
“The man and his son had walked along the footpath outside the gym and literally 15 seconds after coming inside the car ploughed into the building," outlined coach Moore. "Both agree they were very lucky indeed."
Police were quickly on the scene and directed the steady flow of traffic past the crash spot.
Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for information following the incident of dangerous driving in the Galgorm Road and Linenhall Street areas on Saturday afternoon.
The car was observed driving erratically and collided with a wall, the shutters of the gym and a police vehicle.
A 37-year-old man was arrested by police on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit.
He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with information about this incident, especially anyone who noticed a red Vauxhall Corsa driving erratically in the Galgorm Road area at approximately 3pm is asked to contact Ballymena Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
